While everyone's busy trying to figure out which particular shade of brushed metal Apple's new iMacs are going to show up in, a few major online retailers have quietly trimmed 5.5G iPod prices. Apple, who usually keeps a pretty tight rein on its product prices throughout various retail channels, hasn't matched the cuts on the Apple Store, but you can currently score a 30GB or 80GB iPod (with video) for about $20 off at Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City and J&R online stores. This is most probably Apple's attmept to clear away excess stock in preparation for a brand new iPod, or perhaps just a good old-fashioned price cut (I don't think so). Perhaps we'll know more on August 7th. . . . Stay tuned.

Malaysia's AirAsia is Asia’s Best Low-cost Airline
AirAsia was named the Best Low-Cost airline in the Asia 2007 regional worldwide category by Skytrax Research of London, the world’s most popular, independent travel forum and air travel information website.
From operating only with two Boeing 737-300s in 2002, AirAsia now has a fleet of 56 aircraft serving more than 75 domestic and international routes to Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Macau and parts of China.
Group CEO of the airline, Datuk Tony Fernandes said: “It is an honour to receive this accolade. To be known as one of the best in the Asian region in only five years is an astounding success story.”
Way to go AirAsia! They are really doing a great job.

Retro Software: Go!Zilla (Gozilla)
I saw the Internet Turbo icon in the taskbar of my professor's laptop. He uses the laptop to display slides in the class. I once used Internet Turbo as well back when broadband was non-existent. Dial-up internet access was all I had and I always get disconnected from the ISP. Dial-up is a pain in the ass. Slow as hell. Internet Turbo was supposed to boost your connection as it pings your ISP and keeps the connection alive so that you don't get dc - a term we used to disconnected - from the ISP.
Then Go!Zilla came to my mind. Downloading an mp3 song over Napster took 30 minutes on a 56K connection. When I started exploring the endless information (the bad inclusive), I downloaded tons of stuffs. I really needed a download manger because with it I could resume my unfinished downloads. The idea behind the download manager is that it selects to download from several mirrors and chooses the ones which are faster. Go!Zilla was one of the most popular one back then. The download meter bar was color coded and it's always exciting to me when I saw my downloads peaked to the red level at a whopping 5.0 KBps Go!Zilla is a download manager that was created in 1995. It was better than Download Accelerator Plus (DAP). I tried DAP after it was recommended by the InTech section of TheStar newspaper. Turned out that Go!Zilla was still the winner. Hence, I dedicate this post to my old memories of Go!Zilla.

Free 20 oz Coke from MyCokeRewards
So far I have redeemed a t-shirt from the MyCokeRewards program. You get points for every code you enter. The caps of bottle soda are worth 3 points each. Also, they sent me a coupon good for a free 20 oz. Coca-Cola product. It's good to have a bottle of cold coke in the middle of the summer heat. And nothing beats free. Gratis!

Save Your Money for Logitech Wave Keyboard
Logitech is coming up with a spanking new Vista-friendly setup, the Cordless Desktop Wave. Logitech hasn't officially announced the combo yet, but sources mention that the FCC has approved it. In addition to the usual media playback controls, the wireless keyboard includes dedicated buttons for Vista Gadgets, Photo Gallery, Windows Media Player, Media Center and Flip3D. The mouse also has the capability of activating Flip3D by clicking the scroll wheel. Not exactly earth shattering, but the gently curved Wave keyboard and comfortable-looking laser mouse should both do their thing just fine. No words on the market price or release date. But I am guessing it to be at least $100. This is one must-own keyboard. So start cutting out the chips and lunch money. Time to save some serious money.

Banned Spain Royal Comic Caused a Stir
Last week, the nation of Spain was furious with a comic of the royal family published in El Jueves. It depicts Crown Prince Felipe and his wife having sex. The Spain's High Court has ordered the seizure of all copies of a magazine that carried that cartoon.
http://image.bayimg.com/caehbaabc.jpg
"In the cartoon, Felipe is talking about the Spanish Government's decision to pay €2500 ($3900) to the parents of every child born in the country in order to increase the birth rate.“Just imagine if you end up pregnant,” Felipe says.“This will be the closest thing to work I've ever done in my life.”"

New OS Windows 7: the Sucessor of Windows Vista
Windows 7
Microsoft is planning for next version of Windows to be released around the year 2010 *fingers crossed!) It is called Windows 7 It was previously as Vienna (codename). As you can easiyl guess, it will have 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Also, there'll be the home user and business editions. Why is it called "Windows 7"? Windows Vista is actually Windows 6.0, therefore Vienna will presumably be version 7.0. In my opinion, Windows 7 sounds a lot worse than Vienna. Windows 7. Pheh. Ugly name. By 2010, most people would be Vista users. Just like the XP trend, it'll be very popular and widely used as time passes (into the future).
Sidenote: Apple will release its next generation of operating system named “Leopard” (Mac OS X version 10.5) in October 2007. You can pre-order now on Amazon.com.

Sophomore running back Lance Smith has been suspended from the Wisconsin football team.
Barry Alvarez, the Athlectic Director of UW, said Smith violated the athletic department's student-athlete discipline policy but he did not offer any details, citing privacy laws.
Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said Smith got into a dispute with his girlfriend after midnight Saturday over how much money she owed him for cab fare. he said $10, she claimed she owed him $5.
Said dispute careened from apartment from which girlfriend was not permitted to leave -- @ gas station his girlfriend was to make change from a twenty and was shoved to the ground by Smith, who took the twenty and her also shoes.
(Lance Smith stole his girlfriend's shoes?)
Smith is Wisconsin's 2nd running back behind Freshman of the Year PJ Hill. He's been suspended indefinitely until investigation completed. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
Smith will be suspended from practice and competition until the case is sorted out.

What's For Spam Today?
I am thinking of having a new blog on the various new spam emails which I receive in my inbox everyday. Day in day out. For starters, today I received a spam email titled "Beckham fingering his wife's thigh" . The sender name was "David Beckham fingering her wife's thigh in public."
As I am a huge David Beckham fan, this spam email TOTALLY got my attention. Damn spam!

Firefox 2.0.0.5 Update
Firefox has automatically updated many of its users version to the latest one: Firefox 2.0.0.5.
The update is to fix several security issues, which includes a fix for the firefoxurl:// security exploit. firefoxurl:// seems to be really cool. Well anyway, the bug may allow potential attackers to trick Firefox into executing malicious codes (and you wouldn't want that to happen, no, no)
Not using Firefox yet?
P.S. Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.4 has also been released last week.
Get Mozilla Firefox with Google Toolbar here
Also, I saw an eBay edition of Mozilla Firefox

Live Free Or Die Hard Movie Review
From Die Hard 1 to Die Hard 2 to Die Hard 3, and now to Live Free or Die Hard (aka Die Hard 4), Bruce Willis is still the man you count on when you need a senior investigator to arrest some hacker. Die Hard 3 - With a Vengeance hit the screens in 1995. Some freaking 12 years ago and back then I was still a small skinny kid in primary school and Michael Chang and Pete Sampras were still slugging it out at the top of the ATP rankings. Boris Becker and Thomas Muster were still active. David Beckham was still at Manchester United and single. Foooh, damn long ago man! Back to Die Hard 4. . .
Live Free or Die Hard was excellent from my point of view. Action packed till the end. Add a little bit of humor into the tough, heroic figure of Bruce Willis. And voila! You would enjoy the whole movie. The grumpy balding Bruce Willis is still not too old for this it seems to me. Justin Long (aka the Mac Guy)-played the Matt Farrell character brings more humor into the movie and Maggie Q is as stunning as always, even though she plays the villain. Nice kicking kung fu actions thrown in there. Hacking the network with a mobile phone, hmm... isn't that not possible? Well there are many things which are obviously impossible. You can't outfight the jetfighter with you driving a trailer truck and you can't hit the helicopter with a car, well, unless you're John McClane (Bruce Willis).
"The film is character-driven, anchored by one of pop culture's toughest yet most endearing everyman heroes."
Definitely worth the money. You won't yawn even a bit. So I give it a ¢¢¢¢¢. 4 cents out of 5.

My Banner From SponsoredReviews
I looked through the few banners made available by the guys at SponsoredReviews, and I finally chose one;
I think this has the best color scheme among all and doesn't have the money sign in it. I am doing more SR than PPP nowadays (PPP is almost flat out inactive for me because of the growing member population and lack of useful opps) Also, the PPP Alexa ranking tool does not update as it was said to be.
PPP going down the drain for me?

Infected asappsrv.dll
My laptop is infected. Damn asappsrv.dll
It has been a while since my computer got infected by a virus. Trust me, I always practice safe computing. Safety 1st, always. Don't wanna regret when things turn out bad. Back to the virus. After consulting several Google search results, it is a spyware and sometimes labelled as a trojan. The previous trojan which I had was a subseven that I got almost 7 years ago. God damn it. Spywares, adwares and trojans and viruses suck. Spyware Doctor is one of the best out there and I had to concede defeat and install it once more. PC Tools's Free Anti Virus doesn't seem strong enough. After each restart, it will come out with an error (Code 103) saying that it cannot be started. Must the blocked. And I lost my Shut Down and Restart buttons. Had to go download a shortcut pack from the internet. It's for Windows Vista by the way.
**Update**
I tried Spyware Doctor (one of the best) but solve the problem. Then I used Spybot Search & Destroy (used to be one of the best) and voila! It detected the registry entries and I had them removed. Now everything is solved and back to normal. No more missing shut down buttons. The shut down, restart and sleep buttons reappeared. My task manager is back again after ctrl-alt-del.

Rent Computers, Even A Mac Book Pro . . .
Special events normally would require a lot of equipments, computers and other audio visual equipments especially if it was an event as big as the Engineering EXPO. Exhibitors would ask to have computers and other audio visual equipments setup at their respective booths. Therefore, computer rental is a viable option if the location itself does not have those equipments available. Many rental companies provide great rental services and products. But do they have Mac Pro rental and MacBook Pro rental available? CRE provides many products up for rent at competetive rates. You can even rent plasma display TVs and Apple Cinema Displays. They have a lot of HP laptops and also Apple laptops available. All of them are equipped with 802.11 a/b/g wireless capabilities. Their service caters best for trade shows, conventions, dinner meetings, and general session rentals. The company is based in California and has numerous locations across the whole California state. They are a reputable company which has been an industry leader for over 25 years. So feel safe and rent away!

Credit card ratings and comparison site
For newbies, credit card selections don't seem too hard. However, for seasoned campaigners, things are dramatically different. Newbies do not have a credit history established and therefore would gladly accept any card which would approve them. On the other hand, seasoned campaigners would want credit cards which provide them with the best rewards and privileges. There are many factors to be taken into consideration when you apply for a credit card. Zero annual fees, low APR's, Extended Warranty and Travel Insurance are a few examples of the most common merits which credit cards offer. With so many different credit cards to choose from, how do you find the card which suits you best? For my case, I am a college student who would love to get cash back and rewards for my spendings, and I am not willing to pay any annual fee because I think it is unnecessary (totally). And I do not care about the APR because I will always pay my bills on time (smart money management, even at college level). So I go to Your Credit Network and select Student Credit Card link and see the list of credit cards on there with the ratings right next to each card. I saw a few credit cards issued by Citibank which suit my needs and are the highest rated ones in that category (3.5/5.0). These online credit cards can all be applied by simply filling up the application form on your computer and have the form submitted online. Sometimes, you can even get instant approvals on the spot, pending credit check verification.
This type of website really makes the selection process a lot easier and quicker as you can have all the information you need to do the comparisons and that is why I love to use them. It's simple, it's easy, it's quick.

UK firm close to unlocking the iPhone
If you happen to live in the U.K. and just can’t wait several more months before the iPhone officially launches with a local carrier, there might be a solution in the works. Founder of Uniquephones John McLaughlin has told IDG that his software engineers were getting really close with bypassing Apple and AT&T’s locks. The firm is currently working on iPhone unlocking software that can supposedly unlock 75% of all iPhones tested thus far.
Should they succeed, the iPhone will work with any GSM network in the world, although you do have to give up several operator-dependent features like visual voicemail. Uniquephones plans to release a public beta of its iPhone unlocking software, but it does plan to eventually sell it for approximately $50. This is much higher than what it charges for unlocking other mobile handsets. Sweet! Just one more reason to buy the iPhone.

MBNA WorldPoints Redemption
Finally, I redeemed my MBNA Rewards WorldPoints. The rewards for electronics are extremely high in points, therefore, I opted for a check. I didn't want a gift card because I don't think I am buying anything from the retail stores. A check arrived in a month (after redemption)
However, it took me quite a while to accumulate all the points and I am glad I was able to get away with some sort of rewards. Thanks to the double reward points promotion when I signed up, I was able to collect points on a faster pace. I received 2x points for dining and travel transactions.
And the MBNA plastic card looks really nice, plus I got a nice Wisconsin football field towel when I signed up.

Liverpool Captures Torres
Liverpool has successfull completed the signing of Spaniard Fernando Torres from Atletico Madrid for up to £26.5million. Torres was one of the few Spain's great perfromers in the World Cup last year.
With this move, Liverpool has reinforced itself among the European elites once again. Great capture and we'll look forward to seeing some Spanish flavor in the EPL next season.
