Tech: Taiwan Earthquake Disrupts Internet in Malaysia
Malaysian Internet users woke up yesterday morning to a crawl on the so-called information superhighway that would have rivalled KL’s infamous traffic jams.
Local access to Internet services and websites hosted overseas came to a practical standstill after international links were disrupted by the earthquake that struck southern Taiwan on Tuesday night.
The earthquake damaged submarine cables that form part of the region-wide Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN 2), disrupting voice and Internet communications over much of Asia.
APCN 2 is a 19,000km-long fibre-optic cable network linking Japan, South Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, the United States, Europe and Australia.
The network has been up since October 2002 and is jointly operated by 26 Asian telecommunications carriers, including TM Bhd.
The damaged links are between Shantou (China) and Tanshui (Taiwan), and, Lantau (Hong Kong) and Chongming (China).
Internet service provider (ISP) Jaring said the disruption started at 3.45am yesterday, and warned users to expect congestion to and from overseas websites during peak hours.
TM Net said in a statement the disruption caused outages to several of its international transit and peering links.
The ISP said Malaysian Internet users would experience “some delay” in accessing content and websites hosted overseas, especially in the United States, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea and Europe.

You should join the 2006 Photograph of the Year Contest if you're really into photography. It should be a good opportunity for those who have the hobby of photography. Nothing to lose to give it a shot. I have visited some of my friends' websites where they posted up their hobby works. Pretty good work!
One is Mun Weng's (who does freelance)

Can you believe it? $14G's up for grab! I cut out newspaper photos of tennis players and astrology when I was 11 or 12. I wish someone in my family had encouraged me down that road. Probably I could enter the contest with one really great photo by now. Maybe I will give it a shot. SHould really start working on it right now if you don'thave anyhting in mind yet.

65nm Xbox 360 CPU refresh delayed until 2007+
Bad news for those potential Xbox fanboys out there waiting for a cooler and less power-hungry Xbox before they spring for that nifty white box: DigiTimes is reporting that Microsoft's upcoming 65nm processors -- the current 360s are running those oh-so-2005 90nm chips -- have been delayed, and won't be making it off the production line until mid-2007, at least a quarter after current projections.
Of course, the main source of noise on the box is really the disc drive, and we hope this doesn't mean Microsoft will hold off much longer on a price cut (no, not that price cut) but we really wouldn't mind a little bit of modern processor tech in this thing, so we'll hope Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, Microsoft's partner in chip-building crime, will pull through on this one and deliver those 65nm chips right on schedule.

Switch to New Blogger?
Should I Be Switching to the New Blogger
Can anyone who has switched to the new blogger (previously known as Blogger beta) share with me their experience?
* Are thereany significant improvements?
* what are the best new features?
* Did you lose your customization?
* Did you have to adjust your layout?
* Did it take you long to categorise your postings?
* Were you able to make use of the current template you were using or did you have to change to one of blogger's customized templates?
* Can you describe your switching experience?
* Which do you prefer? The new Blogger or the old.
I think I was able to switch but I wouldn't wanna do that yet because I was afraid I might need to change some of the properties in the template settings.

Universal USB Phone Charger Doesn't Work
This universal USB phone charger I bought a while ago does not work. It has 5 connector heads for Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and some other brands. It is not specified though which are the 5 models.
I plugged it into a Nokia phone, and the screen on the phone says NOT CHARGING.
This item is a scam and a waste of money. Sucks!

Review: Xper Hard Drive Cooler 2 60mm fans
After installling the cooler, the hard drive temperature as observed by CPUfan does show improvements. Temperatures are lower by 3-4 degrees Celcius.
This kinda cooler fan is widely available on any computer retailers online for less than $10. Definitely worth an investment, just a tiny investment.

Payperpost on Youtube
payperpost is on Youtube
this video is one of its videos uploaded there.
This is episode 2 of RockStartUp. It's 8:25 minutes long. Ted and Britt crash the Today Show in New York City and were handing out free signs and finger foams etc.. with payperpost logos.
The handed out signs for people to write on, you know, those fans who stand by the road and wanna get their faces on camera and say hi and have holiday greetings for their loved ones at home. I think that a pretty slick idea from payperpost to hand out free empty boards or signs and offer them to write their holiday messages and promote payperpost at the same time. Free advertising and promo. On national TV! Can't beat that. And in the video they showed those guys of payperpost at a convention, having a booth for customers to enquire about.
There are some 37 videos that payperpost has uploaded to youtube, varying from announcements to confessions(!!) from the people at payperpost.
This post is brought to you by payperpost.

What is Hors d'œuvre? (Hors d'oeuvre)
Remember the McDonald's commercial where the boyfriend was saying "Samantha wants Hors d'oeuvres"? I wasn't sure what Hors d'oeuvre were. I really wanted to google it up or wiki it up. But that took a while. Finally, now that I am done with finals, I was cleaning up my table and saw a piece of memo that served as a reminder. Hence, I searched online only to find out it's just the French word for appetizers. Heck. No big deal after all. It's appetizers people. Sounds lavish.

Online Calendar Service (American Greetings)
If you are oone of those people who forget the birthdays of your friends, then you probably should sign up with services like BirthdayAlarm or any other birthday reminder services which I don;t remember right now. I have an account with BirthdayAlarm but I seldom use it, so it's not that useful for me after all. Then there's American Greetings’ free online calendar which also has birthday and event reminders, sent to your email or cell phone (text messaging may incur extra carrier charges depending on your plan).
The online calendar even sends you eCard suggestions, for remembering special people on special days. Neat option but not necessary for me. I am the type who prefer to keep extra reminders away, but it is still a cool option there.
You can keep track of important events, coordinate schedules and express your personal style - all with this free online calendar. Online calendar is like a personal organiser, just that it's online. But that's good. You can easily access it anytime.

Walmart Has Nintendo Wii Gift Card
Walmart has this Nintendo Wii gift card for $249.24.
It is not restricted to Nintendo Wii. Owners can use it to buy anything from Walmart.
There's no expiration date, so they can use it to buy the Wii when one becomes available.
Gift card is valid for Every Day value of Wii exclusive of tax or shipping. However, Receipt of Gift Card does not guarantee availability of Wii for purchase in all locations. (LOL)
So this might be a lil hefty as a gift, but if you've got the money, splash it onto someone who really wants a Wii for Christmas, I bet that lucky fella would love it. I know I would.

Payperpost - Get Paid For Blogging?
I stumbled upon PayPerPost on some random blog and just decided to check it out for the heck of it. It turns out that PPP (as they usually call it) is a very good way to finance one's blog or website or whatever.
PayPerPost allows bloggers to get paid for blog advertising. It is an intelligent move, I must say, by PPP to launch this service as it is an instant hit! Words spreaded out faster that wildfire and so many blogs have PPP related contents on them. Wowh!
With PayPerPost advertisers are willing to pay you for your opinion on various topics. Search through a list of opportunities, make a blog posting, get your content approved, and get paid. It's that simple.
Payments are received through Paypal after 30 days of of posting and after they check that it still meets the requirements set by the advertisers.
Blogging has evolved. It has. This post is sponsored by Payperpost

Freedom Tower
Freedom Tower is the centerpiece building of the new World Trade Center complex currently planned for Lower Manhattan. Construction began on April 27 2006. It is projected to be completed by year 2012, some six years away from now.
The height to the top of the spire is set to be 1,776 feet (541 m), a tribute to the year 1776, when the United States Declaration of Independence was drafted.
The Freedom Tower is intended to be taller than Chicago's Sears Tower and become the tallest building in the United States, and among the tallest buildings in the world when completed.
It is gonna surpass Taipei 101 of Taiwan as the tallest building in the world, an honor once held by Kuala Lumpur's Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia.

Cancel t-mobile and/or cingular w/o penalty! :)
I came across a post on SD. The tile says "Cancel t-mobile and/or cingular w/o penalty! :)"
not sure if this has been posted before, but regardless
Recently I figured out a loop hole in the Cingular/T-mobile contract system ...
Normally they charge $175 or something /line for cancellation; if you are in midst of a contract, and want to cancel it, this should work out easy (did it for me ) ::
Upgrade your plan (you can downgrade it if you want) such that you have to renew your contract; I upgraded mine from a single line to a family plan. This renewed my 2-yr contract. It is sort of like signing up for a new service all-together.
Now you can cancel your service with 14 (for t-mobile i believe) and 30 (for cingular) days without any penalty!
MAKE SURE TO ASK THEM WHEN YOU SIGN UP IF YOU CAN CANCEL IT WITHOUT ANY PENALTY WITHIN 14/30 DAYS!!
I was actually able to get 2 razrs at wicked cheap prices and ebayed em for profit; they might or might not ask you to return the equipment -- they didn't ask me to return it. Also if they happen to ask you, pretend you dropped the call and call in again -- might get lucky -- even though the CSR didn't ask me to return the phones, apparently I do have to; so no free phones!
Anyway, figured I'd share it with you guys. Hope this helps out someone

New TV Guide
Me and my housemate are currently shopping for a new TV. Yes, we did survive one semester without a TV in our living room (Go we!)
Then I came across this New TV Guide website which is very useful.Choosing a TV from leading brands has never been easier. We have been looking at a possible Sony or some flat screen TV.
There's even a section on How to Choose and Buy a Television. This site's layout is organised and you'll have no problem navigating through it to find the information that you want. This is a sponsored post.

Allen Iverson traded to Denver Nuggets!
Oh yes you heard it!
The announcement was made yesterday!
The Denver Nuggets have negotiated a trade that has the Philadelphia 76ers trade their superstar Allen Iverson to them and have their PG Andre Miller heading to Philly. (plus some 1st round draft picks)
This is a huge coup for the Nugget sI would say. And just at the right time.
Their NBA's leading scorer is suspended for 15 games for punching Jeffries in this season's infamous brawl. You lost the leading scorer, you plug in with the second leading scorer in NBA this season in A.I. Genius!

Haunted Hotels
A Guide to Haunted Hotels and Lodging
This is gonna be interesting. Getting freaky. Probably gonna give some readers goosebumps.
The main page of the website, you can navigate through by selecting whichever state you want. I chose Wisconsin and found 1 hotel entry, the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. Visitors can choose United Kingdom as well, great for all the British fans out there.
The main idea of the website is providing information of haunted stories of each hotel. I guess this is to cater to people who are interested in haunted hotels.

Las Vegas NEVADA
Does this phrase sound familiar to you? "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."
Yeah, it's America'a Sin City.
Nightlife, casinos and all the fun in the lighted city. Bling Bling!
And the top attractions in Las Vegas according to TripAdvisor are mainly occupied by Cirque du Soleil.
And I just found out on UWBadgers.com that the University of Wisconsin and Live Nation announced DELIRIUM, a Cirque du Soleil live music concert, will take place at the Kohl Center on Sunday, March 4, at 8:00 p.m. Created and directed by Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon, DELIRIUM is a multifaceted event of unprecedented proportion featuring Cirque du Soleil music remixed. Driven by an urban tribal beat and awe-inspiring visuals, musicians, singers and dancers transform the arena into joyous frenzy.
The base ticket prices are $97.50, $67.50 and $37.50. There is a $7.50 per ticket fee and a $2 facility fee added to the price of each ticket.
The seating chart is as below.

Allen Iverson Trade Saga
Philadelphia 76ers' star Allen Iverson is now in the middle of a trade saga. Sixers chairman Ed Snider confirmed that the 76ers are gonna trade their 2001 MVP star. Eversince the NBA Finals appearance in 2001, the 76ers never looked like a team to beat. Iverson is averaging 31.2 points per game, 7.3 assists per game and 2.2 steals per game this season. He led the NBA in steals and scoring for a number of seasons. A.I., as he is often called by sportcasters, was reportedly close to become a member of the Boston Celtics in a trade rumor over the summer which never took place.
Iverson, the No. 1 pick in the 1996 draft and a seven-time All-Star, has won four scoring titles, two All-Star game MVPs and the MVP award in 2001 after taking the Sixers to the NBA finals. He has always stated that he wants to remain in Philadelhpia when trade rumors surfaced in the past. But this time, it seems to be time. Time to move on. Former 76ers and USA head coach Larry Brown criticized Iverson for taking too many shots and accused him of being selfish at times.
I am sure many teams are keen to sit down a negotiate a trade deal, but the ball's not in the 76ers' court. The Sixers will not probably get a good player-for-player trade with the season going into its 8th week (out of 24 weeks). Most probably they would just settle for first round draft picks for 2007 or some young players to rebuild the underachieving team.
Iverson is one of the most exciting players in the NBA league. In fact, he's one of my idols. I am talking about hustle, loyalty and respect here. Other players around the league has stated they have no problems having Iverson joining their team, from brawl hero Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets to star-with-a-going-nowhere team Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jack Ikegwuonu Rejoins Team Pending Burglary Case
Follow-up on the Jack Ikegwuonu's earlier arrest for allegedly stealing an XBOX froman off-campus apartment:
MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin reinstated defensive back Jack Ikegwuonu on Friday pending further developments in his burglary case.
Ikegwuonu, a sophomore cornerback and All-Big Ten Conference pick, was suspended from competition and practice Dec. 1. Police in Dekalb, Ill., had arrested Ikegwuonu and his brother, William, about a week before and accused them of breaking into an off-campus apartment and trying to steal an Xbox game console.
The brothers face residential burglary and criminal trespass charges.
Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez said Ikegwuonu had been reinstated "pending further inquiry into his case." The statement did not elaborate, citing privacy laws governing student disciplinary actions.
Wisconsin will face Arkansas on Jan. 1 in the Capital One Bowl.

Book Online and Save More on HotelReservations.com
Planning for holidays? Or making last minute plans for your winter break? Hotel Reservations can help. A quick search with the destination, dates and number of rooms info produces quite a number of results of internet special rates which you can sort by Best Value, Quality, Price, A-Z and Show Hotels Near Landmarks, which is totally neat. So now you can choose the locations of possible hotels easier than just going by zones as going by popular landmarks really gets to the point. Right on!

Snow Globe + Mouse= MouseGlobe
This little mouse is sure to bring a smile to the face of other people at your office, even if the smile originates as they wonder what exactly would bring you to buy something like this. If you are still feeling in the holiday decorating mood, the folks over at Thanko, the destination for weird USB gear has the thing for you.
This is a normal (sort of) USB mouse that is clear and has water inside the mouse body along with a snow man and the fake snow we all know and love from those cheap snow globes we get as gifts when family and friends go on vacation.
Plug the mouse in and different color LEDs make the water inside the mouse glow seven different colors. The buttons of the mouse a replete with a smiley face to spread the cheer further. The resolution is 800 DPI and the mouse needs either a USB 1.1 or an USB 2.0 port to operate. No external power is required for the light show; all functions of the mouse are USB powered.

Risky Online Payday Loan
As per my blog post title, internet payday loans are dangerous for cash-strapped consumers. The risk is high for this kind of Online Payday Loan. I am warning consumers to exercise extreme caution when using Internet payday loan sites, where loans due by the next payday. If you fail to pay on time, you would have to pay a lot more! (ouch)

Test Tube Aliens Can Be Found On Amazon.com As Well
I spent a lil bit of time watching the videos on youtube about the test tube aliens. It's fun and special. Certainly not any ordinary toy you get off the shelves of a typical toy section! DO check them out. Just search "Test Tube Alien" on youtube and you'll find the user who poseted many videos of the Test Tube Aliens.
And I just searched on Amazon.com for it since I have some gift certificates there, and yes they are available on Amazon as well.

ATI Radeon X1650 Pro
This is the best value for money 3D graphics card that I can find for my tight $100 budget. The strongest 3D card for the $100 price range I would say.
I am still undecided on building a new custom PC although it has been some long 5 months eversince my previous one died after my apartment was flooded over the summer **sob**.
I know Amazon has the Audigy 4 with a $30 rebate right now. And I haven't tested my Audigy ZS 2 to see if it's still blasting. I never tested my NVIDIA 6600GT graphics card as well.
The Radeon X1650 Pro will meet your Windows Vista and basic gaming needs without overheating your PC or your wallet.

Final Exams Tips
Some final exam tips for all those studying all out before the finals next week!
Although we encourage all students to set up a schedule that allows for regular review, we realize that students will fall behind. Unfortunately you can’t make up for lost time, but you can make the most of what’s left. Here are some tips to help you along the way.
* Prioritize in terms of the grade you want/need in each course, the worth of each exam, and your level of understanding in each course.
* Stay positive, think positive, talk positive.
* Make a plan and manage your time.
* Follow the plan.
* Study and rehearse ACTIVELY!
o Practice output, old exams and test yourself
o Don’t cover too many topics in one day. Instead, review and practice output.
o Don’t passively read over notes; ask yourself questions and answer them out loud and in your own words.
In the end, you may want to remember the sinking feeling in your gut next term and make some changes to your study habi

RockStartup Epsisode 3
Reality tv is fun and interesting. People like to watch the real world going on outside their own world. Rockstartup is a whirlwind journey that captures the promise, the perils, the pride, the pressure, the pain and pitfalls of launching a web 2.0 company. One thing special about this is it's web reality TV. All footage has been shot in HD. Shot in HD! That's great.
Follow the Rockstars as they build a company from nothing into a multi-billion dollar international powerhouse.
EPISODE 3, titled Movin' On Up (9:28min long)
They are finally out of their old office and into their new diggs. Join them as they settle in and get down to business.
I think it's pretty fun to see what's going on around them, giving viewers a backstage view on the work behind it.

American Pie 5: The Naked Mile
The American Pie tradition is continuing on! After a so-so American Pie 4: Band Camp, the people who turned the American Pie Trilogy into one of the best reflective movies on American youngsters, they have decided to come out with American Pie 5: The Naked Mile.

New Jack Black Video (Tenacious D)
First Jack Black and Kyle Gass gave us the world’s greatest band. With the help of Dave Grohl and Satan, they now unleash the world’s greatest movie.
Jack Black and Kyle Gass have had a career as the world’s most awesome rock band, Tenacious D, since their pretty damn funny but short-lived series on HBO. That series, and a 2001 album, have garnered them a loyal following of fanboys and fangirls who like their twisted, sexually explicit, and wonderfully disgusting humor. Their movie, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, attempts to introduce their comedic, but actually solid, musical talents to a broader audience.
The movie was as I predicted - silly. So silly that some bits were actually funny in a weird way. Everyone else loved it, but I thought it was kind of ridiculous.
A movie with Jack Black in it must be very good I suppose. Look at School of Rock, Nacho Libre and now Tenacious D. No particular point, laughter is the best medicine as Reader's Digest always pointed out.

SONY MDR V700DJ Headphones
The price on Amazon was going up and down over that monitoring period but not enough to make my impulse purchase yet. I sold my Sony MDR-NC6 headphones whic featured noise cancelling function because I think it's too small, or rather not jumbo enough. Sony MDR V600 is another option I have considered but I prefer the color of V700.

Shop4miles.com Review
Shop4Miles is a new shopping engine which is going to give consumers to redeem Free Frequent Flyer Miles into monetary equvalent reward and that gives the power to consumer purchasing power what they like. It offers something different from traditional airline mileage rewards shopping sites; not only will shoppers find exactly what products they are looking for, they are going to get it for the best price. So, its going to distinguish itself with other engine. Because shopping & price comparison websites do not give any rebates or rewards where as shop4miles is providing that one
Shop4Miles offers multiple airline & loyalty programs to give users more choice and flexibility. They would like to have all of the major airline loyalty programs participating and as of now, they are off to a solid start. Shop4Miles.com launches with the participation of mileage programs for Alaska Airlines, Delta Airlines and US Airways.
Shop4Miles intends to distinguish itself with its pro-consumer innovations and merchant impartiality. Most shopping & price comparison websites do not give any rebates or rewards. Another Shop4Miles innovation allows shoppers to choose how they look at listings, whether it's by price, by category or by number of miles received. "You don't even need to be a member of an airline program to search for deals. Our vision is to change the way people shop online. That's why we're championing a model that is more informative, and gives something back to the consumer each time they make a purchase," says Shop4Miles President, Evan Strauss.
About Shop4Miles:
Shop4Miles.com was born when Evan Strauss, self-professed "mileage junkie" and former record company executive was looking to earn miles on his online purchases. He wanted to find, compare prices and earn mileage rewards in one search. Since no one was doing this, he set about creating Shop4Miles, a place where consumers can find, compare, buy and fly. Shop4Miles is headquartered in Los Angeles, CA. They can be reached at 310-550-0434 or on the Web at http://www.shop4miles.com.

Unreasonable Dress Code in Kelantan
Kora Bahru Municipal Council announced a dress code for women in Kelantan! Even for non-Muslims, they should follow these guides. No tight pants. The funny thing is, those who support women rights argue that it's not their fault that men stare at their sexy butts. They say blame it on the hamsap miang cheeky men who have the lustful and dirty mindsets. Yeah, thank God I ain't living in Kelantan!

Common Myths Debunkked
Does swallowed gum takes seven years to digest??
Do black guys generally have bigger penises, while Asian guys have the smallest ones??
Does it take fewer muscles to smile than it does to frown??
Maxim has just released their new Common Myth and Urban Legend Debunkkment Section that examines which ones are true and which are false. Please weigh in your opinion as to which ones you think are true or false and why. Many people just believe whatever other people say and utter in front of them. But they never really go and google about it or try to find out the truth.
Uncover the myths and Urban Legends on Maximonline. They have put together some myths that are quite popular and interesting.
Just some nice info and fun reading. Don't make yourself look shallow in front of your friends. Impress them.

Casino Royale - A Must Watch
This is the best Bond movie, yeah better than Pierce Brosnan, well maybe not better, but surely more heroic than Mr Brosnan is.
This is Bond redefined.
Worth every penny of it. For those who still have doubts, like I initially had, set it aside and get yourself a seat ( and a ticket) and enjoy the actions! I was glued to the whole story till the end. I must say I was very impressed.
And SONY has this limited edition CyberShot James Bond themed T-50 . That's hot!
