13 traffics lights in Madison, WI have been equipped with vocal signals. A few of them are located on UW campus, for example, the University Ave and Park St intersection. This is a good move by Madison city as it very helpful for those who are visually impaired. Previously, I noticed that some traffics lights on campus are equipped with clicker or buzzer signals to let pedestrians know that it is safe to cross the roads. How does it sound like? At the intersection of University Avenue and Park Street, it says “University—walk sign is on to cross University.” The city officials are still working on the volume control as the received complaints over the weeks that the volume is too loud, especially late into the night when the streets are quieter.
